| 1. Who owns tPostgres? |
| |
tPostgres is primarily a project. "TPOSTGRES, LLC" is simply the legal entity behind the "tPostgres
Global Development Group". At this point, Affan Salman is the Lead Developer and Denis Lussier
is the Benevolent Dictator. :-)
|
| 2. How long have we been working on tPostgres? |
| |
Development began in 2011. 2012 is our breakout year as Angel funding has come in. Several expert man years
have already been invested AND we've still got a long way to go. If it was easy, it would already be done. :-)
|
| 3. When will it be production usage ready? |
| |
No exact plans yet. We are an open source project, not a company. Our Git repository is synced to
the head of PG development. The short, no bullshit, answer is "probably sometime in late 2012 or early 2013".
|
| 4. Is tPostgres going to be Open Source? |
| |
We are big fans of Open Source. The tPostgres Global Development Group owns all of the Intellectual Property,
and therefore our options are open. We are presently leaning towards a AGPL v3 Open Source license.
|
| 5. What version of SQL Server are you compatible with? |
| |
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is our general target. Certainly we'll also be "compatible" with SQL Server 2012 since there has been very little
innovation in the last decade. SQL Server has been becoming more ANSI compliant each release and will always be playing
catchup to PostgreSQL in this space.
|
| 6. Are you planning to also offer Sybase Compatibility? |
| |
We also are striving to be compatible with some of the common features of Sybase SQL Server. Mid to low end
DBMS apps that use Microsoft SQL Server are our first target, but, there is hope for y'all that are locked
into the Sybase flavor of SQL Server.
|
| 7. Are we accepting outside developer contributions? |
| |
Yes, of course. Please join our mailing list and start contributing. Before your contributions are
accepted, you will be required to sign a Contributor Agreement that assigns all Copyright to the
tPostgres Global Development Group.
|
| 8. What's the relationship between OpenSCG & tPostgres? |
| |
None, except that Denis is involved with both. The Open Source Consulting Group will
be an important future partner when tPostgres matures to being enterprise-class.
